SAPPF Newsflash! - The President will be signing the NHI Bill into law

MEDIA STATEMENT FROM THE SOUTH AFRICAN HEALTH PROFESSIONALS COLLABORATION (SAHPC)

Dear Members

As I am sure you are aware, last night it was announced that the President will be signing the NHI Bill into law tomorrow, Wednesday 15 May.

We have previously shared that in an effort to unify the Healthcare professionals voice in South Africa, SAPPF spearheaded the formation of the South African Health Professionals Collaboration (SAHPC). The collaboration represents about 25 000 healthcare professionals in South Africa from both the public and private sector.

Today SAPPF in collaboration with the SAHPC will release the attached media statement expressing our profound disappointment that despite our numerous submissions and engagements the President has seemingly ignored our plea urging him to refer the Bill back to Parliament on the grounds that it is unconstitutional and not in the best interest of patients and citizens.

I would like to ensure you that SAPPF is doing everything possible to ensure the voice of the healthcare professional is heard. We will continue to stay vocal, engage wherever possible and continue to advocate for the best possible healthcare system for all South Africans.

Regards,

Simon Strachan

SAPPF CEO
