About SAPPF

SAPPF was established in November 2008 to provide a representative and effective platform to support private practitioners in South Africa.
 

SAPPF has a proven track record in dealing with many challenges, including the skilful handling of three successful legal actions in respect of the RPL, PMBs and HPCSA’s initial attempt to determine ethical tariffs.

The history of SAPPF is long and has many accomplishments. Listed below are the 2023/2024 projects SAPPF undertook and continue to work on:

ACHIEVEMNTS AND PROGRESS IN 2023 

  • NHI media statements and various media engagements - SAPPF represented and took a stand in the best interest of Private Healthcare Professionals and our patients.
  • Maintained relationships with colleagues and other leadership groups, welcoming a number of new members to SAPPF.
  • Hosted wide-reaching webinars with multiple Healthcare professional groups.
  • Organised webinars on: The Legal challenges against NHI, The HASA position on NHI and The B4SA position on NHI.
  • SAPPF initiated the creation of the South African Health Professionals Collaboration which currently represents 25 000 health professionals in South Africa.
  • Tiered Consultation project kick-off
  • Creation of a GAP Cover flier for members
  • Great progress was made on the South African Classification for Health Interventions (SACHI).
  • We are participating in the PHISC due diligence process on ICHI.
  • Code crosswalks from CPT to ICHI
  • Engaged with National Prosecuting Authority and SAPS regarding the criminal prosecution an arrest of healthcare professionals.
  • SAPPF made a submission regarding the 2024/2025 COIDA and RAF Tariffs.
  • We met with the Compensation Fund regarding the procedural coding and non-payment and late payment of COIDA accounts.
  • SAPPF set up a cadence of meetings with the CMS to discuss various issues facing healthcare professionals. A MOU was signed by SAPPF and we continue building a relationship with the CMS.
  • SAPPF has stayed abreast of processes regarding the unbundling of the Medical and Dental Board of the HPCSA to form an independent Dental and Medical Council.
  • SAPPF has taken up Directors and Officer bearers liability insurance.
  • Certificate of need. SAPPF remains the 2nd applicant in this court action which is currently stalled on procedural grounds in the High Court. We anticipate this going to the Constitutional Court.
  • SAPPF ran various surveys with its membership to gain insight and input on a number of topics including, the training of public sector HCPs in private facilities as well as the uptake and use of electronic health record systems by private HCPs.
  • Engagements with Care Connect to establish how we can participate and benefit from this data collection and have access to the central data repository.
  • SAPPF made submission to the Draft Road Accident Fund Amendment Bill, 2023.
