Discovery’s mandatory vaccination policy sees take-up of 94%
“The Covid-19 vaccination rate among Discovery’s SA employees has risen from barely a fifth to 94% in the three months since it announced plans to make jabs compulsory from January,” reported Fin24 (1 Dec 2021).
CEO Adrian Gore said Discovery said if Discovery could convince 40% of the employees with objections, and 63% of those who said they planned to get vaccinated to do so, 97% of staff could be immunised by the peak of the fourth wave.
According to Gore, Discovery leaned on the Disaster Management Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other employment laws to back its policy of mandatory vaccination for employees. These laws assert that employers have a legal and moral obligation to provide a safer workplace, without risk to health, among other things.
