Booster Vaccines for Healthcare Workers (SAPPF Newsletter 3)

Healthcare Workers were vaccinated during the Sisonke trial, starting at the end of February 2021. This means that those who received a single dose of J&J vaccine are now at least 8 months past the initial vaccination date.

"It will be a travesty if healthcare workers are not offered booster vaccines before the 4th wave. Just as we ensured at the start of the vaccine roll out that healthcare workers (HWCs) were prioritised for first vaccination to ensure that they and the health system were protected, it is now equally important to prioritise the protection of HCW," says SAPPF's CEO, Dr Simon Strachan.

Evidence has emerged that indicates people who received a single J&J shot will benefit from a booster vaccine.
