Six more health officials suspended in Digital Vibes scandal

 

Another six health department officials have been placed on precautionary suspension after being implicated in the Special Investigation Unit's inquiry (SIU) into the Digital Vibes PPE scandal.  In addition to director-general Sandile Buthelezi who was placed on precautionary suspension last Sunday, deputy director-general for regulation and compliance Anban Pillay; head of communications Popo Maja; chief director Shireen Pardesi and her personal assistant, Patricia Ngobese; Sifiso Dlamini and Mxolisi Zondi have also been suspended, reported Business Day (1 October 2021). The SIU report also suggested that action also be taken against former Health Department CFO Ian van der Merwe; the agriculture department’s Reginald Ngcobo; and Senzeni Ngubane from the Government Communication and Information Service.
