Shortage of J&J jabs hampers SA’s vaccination programme

A shortage of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines is slowing down the country’s vaccination programme. According to the Department of Health there are plenty of the two-dose Pfizer vaccines available, however, the shortage of J&J vaccines has affected the vaccination programme in remote rural areas and other sites where a single dose is optimal. SA is due to receive 19.1-m doses at the end of September, with just more than 5-m doses due in October, said Nicholas Crisp, Deputy-Director General of Health.
