Western Cape Premier doubts need for stronger lockdown
Although Pres Cyril Ramaphosa and acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi have considered adjusting lockdown restrictions in the Western Cape, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says the province is approaching its peak of infections and the current restrictions strike the right balance. The province currently has 40 000 active Covid-19 cases.
“We continue to have adequate oxygen supplies and human resources to respond at the peak, and have regular huddles with Afrox to ensure that we can increase supplies if needed,” Winde told News24 (3 August 2021). He added they have an agreement with the private sector in place if patient transfers are needed.
