According to a survey of SA’s tuberculosis (TB) prevalence the country has a far higher number of people with TB than previously thought. The survey, conducted on behalf of the DoH between 2017 and 2019, showed that in 2018 the prevalence in SA was 737 per 100 000: lowest in younger people (aged 15-24), peaked in those aged 35 to 44; and adults older than 65.

Many people are living with TB who have not been diagnosed or treated.
