“Diagnosing TB in kids may be just a breath away”

A study that used breath analysis to diagnose TB in children at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town may help to identify TB in children. One of the Red Cross Hospital physicians involved in the study, Professor Heather Zar, said the results are exciting and suggest that there are markers in breath thatcan indicate if a child has TB or not. However, larger studies will be needed to study this test in children with different disease severities and with different susceptibilities, such as HIV-infected and uninfected. – Sunday Times (14 Feb 2021)
