Mediclinic suspends elective surgeries in WesternCape

 

On Saturday, December 19, the healthcare services group Mediclinic announced that it is suspending all elective (or non-emergency surgeries in the Western Cape region. Mediclinic said thesecond wave has resulted in a strong demand for care and cautioned the public to adjust its behaviour and manage the risk of contracting Covid-19.

Netcare also announced that it will be limiting all surgical admissions to cases that are deemed medically necessary and hospitals are restricting visiting to exceptional cases only.

By December 21, the total number of confirmed COVID19 cases was 930 711; the total number of deaths 24 907; and the total number of recoveries 796 346.
