Dr Simon Strachan

MBChB(UCT) FCPaed(SA)

Simon obtained his MBChB from The University of Cape Town in 1987 and graduated as a Fellow of the College of Paediatricians through WITS in 1995. He started in general private Paediatric practice in Bedfordview, Johannesburg in 1996 and is now in his 28th year of private practice.  

Dr Strachan has publications in international Journals and has been an invited speaker at both local and international conferences. He is co-author of “Feeding Sense” published by Metz Press and this is in its 2nd edition, an examiner for the CMSA FCPaed II specialist exams, a lecturer on the MSc in Vaccinology degree at Wits and an instructor on the Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course. 


Along with colleague Dr Michael Platten, Dr Strachan hosts a podcast called Two Paeds in a Podcast. This provides sensible easy to understand information to assist parents in parenting and looking after their sick children. He is a partner in Paeds on call @Ackermed and ambulatory paediatric practices offering consultations after business hours.

He believes that the private sector is integral to the successful achievement of universal access to healthcare for all South Africans.  

He is married and has lots of children and grandchildren.  Simon supports Liverpool Football club, enjoys family time and is always up for a new adventure.
